Bored to death
Rodney 7 commentsEver used the expression "bored to death"? Well it turns out, it's not so far from the truth as you might think. A at University College, in London, has found that people who are bored are 37% more likely to die before "their time".
The study, which was based on data collected between 1985 and 1988, concentrated on 7524 civil servants, aged between 35 and 55 and asked participants to rate their level of boredom with life in general. A comparison of those people was then taken to see which were still alive, at the end of 2009.
Researchers say they believe that the correlation between earlier death and boredom is probably related to people making poor life and health decisions, when bored, such as drinking, smoking, etc.
The parent article does not have any information about whether or not updated "boredom statuses" were taken of participants since 1988.
I believe the most relevant statistic here is that approximately 90% of all statistics are made up on the spot... just like this one was!!! ;P
...in response to this comment by aries. 38% of people would believe you but only 97% of them would be right.
...in response to this comment by Marvin the Martian. and of that 97%, approximately 28% will die before their time from boredom!
Did you know that 38% of all statistics are in fact made up?
That is the cutest baby ever...
...in response to this comment by Jake Farr-Wharton. ... and now for the late news... lol
i prefer 'boredom coma' myself.. something of which i have a habit of falling into every now and then.

Tuesday 9th February 2010 | 11:19 AMI think it is stupid that they make the statement 'before their time' when it is impossible to pinpoint with any certainty. All they can do is base it off the 'average' which never suits specific cases. Another useless statistical study. 47% of people know that.
