Official new Star Trek trailer finally released: in HD!
Mikey 20 commentsTrekies rejoice, it's finally here. Now I am a Star Trek fan from way back, since as young as I can remember, and even to this day still prefer the original series over them all.
And with JJ Abrams impending new Star Trek flick I am excited as can be. Just look at the trailer and judge for yourself.
Unfortunately you need Apple Quicktime, but if you want something lighter for you PC I suggest grabbing Quicktime Alternative or Quicktime Lite.
...in response to this comment by Rodney. Gah! I knew we should have implemented a remove kudos function! Just kidding. I am of the same opinion of Star Wars. Let the battle begin!

Tuesday 18th November 2008 | 09:43 PMRodney: May the Force be with you! ;)
...in response to this comment by Mikey. Hahah there's no battle! There's nothing worse than two nerds arguing over whether Star Wars or Star Trek is better - they're just movies, TV shows and fictional stories. We should all just go and enjoy both of them for what they are, and be thankful we have both of them to entertain us.
And besides, everyone knows Star Wars is better, anyway! :-P
Hahaha I just stumbled across this:

This movie scares me.
It could cause a riot amongst fans if it sucks, which I think it will.
It may also make me stop watching Star Trek Movies.
Oh and Rodney, 3 words, Jar Jar Binks. Star Trek has never pandered to kids. Star Trek fans love Star Trek. Star Wars fans hate Star Wars.
I can go on for days as to why this movie will make me angrier than Showgirls and why Star trek is better than Star Wars but in the end it comes down to I am The Movie Whore and if even I the devourer of bad film am looking at this one and running then Houston we may have problem.
I think it looks awesome. I can't wait. And its Star Trek all the way.
...in response to this comment by Laiste. "its Star Trek all the way"
...and some much deserved Kudos for that comment :-)
...in response to this comment by Rodney. I'm with you. SW beats ST any day. But there's no battle here :-()

Wednesday 19th November 2008 | 09:09 AM...in response to this comment by Rodney. You know, my best friend always used to say, there are two types of people, those who like star trek and everyone else.
Great trailer!
...in response to this comment by The Movie Whore. Star Trek fans might love Star Trek movies and Star Wars fans might hate Star Wars movies - but that's because Star Trek fan's expectations have been set so low, that they're now tolerant of 2nd rate blither, where as Star Wars fans have high hopes and will speak out when something isn't right!
Anyway - as with last time we had this argument here, you know I am only stirring. I like a good Star Trek movie as much as the next man. I'm just waiting 'til they make one!
Here's a thought I just had.
Many moons ago, a guy called Shakespear churned out dozens of plays, each one pretty much pandering to the specific client and copping something of a roasting from the critics of the day. Then as time went by, people analysed the plays and found a myriad of hidden meanings, many of which were probably never intended by the author (for example, I had to do a post-feminist reading of Hamlet in year 12 and I doubt Shakespeare had that in mind when he wrote it).
Wouldn't it be funny if kids in 200 years are sitting in some class room doing a post-post-post-modern analytical assignment of the family interactions between Luke, Leia and Anikan or leading a discussion on the differences in leadership styles between Picard and Kirk?
...in response to this comment by Rodney. That is one of the biggest stretches I have seen. However it would be absolutely brilliant if 200 years from now this debate was still going on.
While I am bigger Star Trek fan than Star Wars even I look at this trailer as a fan of the franchise and see that this movie will tick me off. I can already see the million Trekkie march against this one.
Kirk is my hero. Always has been and always will be.
I can already see that they are disregarding certain elements of the original mythology, not to mention taking too many liberties with CGI beasties. I have serious doubts this flick will worth the price of admission.
Oh and I will take Any actor that played a starship captain in Star trek over having to sit through Hayden Christensen.

Wednesday 19th November 2008 | 09:59 AM...in response to this comment by The Movie Whore. Please; 200 years from now, Star Wars and Star Trek will both be looked at as history documentaries.
...in response to this comment by The Movie Whore. From everything I have read so far, differences from cannon will be explained by the time travel plot of the movie. I'm not going to diss it till I've seen it.
My biggest problem will be getting used to other people in iconic roles. Besides, Chris Pine is so much more attractive then W.S that I may have a hard time believing he really is Kirk.
...in response to this comment by Laiste. "From everything I have read so far, differences from cannon will be explained by the time travel plot of the movie."
Time travel is the most overused, wipe the slate clean, sorry plot twist to make everything ok, that ever was. It is nothing but a cash cow and while I know I will see it because really my curiosity will get the better of me, I will be happy if I make through the whole thing with out tearing off on a rant in the middle of the movie.
...in response to this comment by The Movie Whore. Well I agree, time travel is overused, but I get why J J Abrams went with it. It was his way to have his cake and eat it too. He wanted to sort of start again. Make, not so much of a Star Trek movie as a movie that happened to be about Star Trek. Hopefully make it cool. It'll be interesting to see if he achieves his aim- of getting non Star Trek fans to like his movie. We'll have to wait and see.

Thursday 20th November 2008 | 10:35 PMI heard William Shatner got upset because they didn't invite him on the movie for a guest appearance... Funny...
...in response to this comment by Papa. Actually he did not. He addressed it on his website.

Friday 21st November 2008 | 01:59 AMI don't know guys, I'm not that much into star trek or star wars, but watching this trailer makes me think more of star wars compared to the star trek I know... Anyway, seems like a cool movie, I'll check this one out!

Tuesday 18th November 2008 | 08:56 PMI dunno man. I know I'm going to cop flak for this but I always find Star Trek previews are more exciting than the actual movies.
