What's with the Kudos?
Mikey 19 commentsIntroducing Kudos Comments.
What this 'Kudos' thing all about?
Actually we were hoping you could explain it to us. Just kidding.
Kudos Comments is a system we developed to reward our members when they comment. If you are a registered member, and you see a comment on any article you think is exceptionally worthy or significant in any way, you can award Kudos to the person who made the comment.
Can I take Kudos away from someone for a bad comment?
We thought about that initially but soon realised it would be open to abuse. The rationale behind this decision is that we believe that given the opportunity to remove kudos from other members, some people might be inclined to do so onto users who simply disagree with their own personal politics or opinions, even though the comment itself may have actually been good. Furthermore, said user might be inclined to take it a step further and start removing Kudos from a particular user they have a disagreement with, even if that reason was unjust.
By only allowing the ability to give kudos, people can only ever be awarded, not punished unfairly.
Are there any other ways to increase my Kudos?
We will be introducing new ways to increase your Kudos in the future. But for now the best way is to simply comment meaningfully on articles.
If I close my account will I lose all my Kudos?
Short answer: yes. As we value your privacy, we think you have the reasonable expectation that killing your own account is a permanent action.
Can I join?
Absolutely. Joining Rusty Lime is free and easy. See for yourself.
...in response to this comment by Mark. Thanks Marky!
Of course, as always, nicely done. :-)
This will add a whole new dimension to the blog and I look forward to seeing how it works out.
This is awesome. One question- can we go back and give kudos for old articles/ comments or just for the ones from now on?
...in response to this comment by Laiste. Hi Laiste,
Thanks for the kind words!
You can only give Kudos to comments - not articles. I have had a few people confused by the concept, so maybe this will clear up some questions.
1) You can give Kudos to comments made by other registered members
2) As a registered member, you can receive Kudos for your comments
3) You need to be logged in to receive Kudos
4) You can not give yourself Kudos (oh my!)
5) You can only give Kudos to a particular comment once
6) There is no limit on how much Kudos you give or receive each day
...in response to this comment by Mikey. Thanks. I actually meant the comments that are posted on old articles. For example theres one I'd love to give Friendo kudos for on one of my old articles but the comment in question doesn't have the option to give kudos. Is that because its old?
p.s now I have to make sure I'm clicking the right thing- I accidently gave you kudos when I meant to reply to your comment, lol.

Kind of. It's actually because those comments were made when the user was not logged in. But of course back then we didn't have user accounts, so...
"I accidental gave you kudos when I meant to reply to your comment, lol"
Haha Sweet! :-) No complaints here. I can see why you did it though. The kudos link is in exactly the same spot as the reply used to be. You'll get used to it :-)
...in response to this comment by Mikey. Cool. I get it (finally :-)), I'll just have to tell Friendo I thought his comment was cool.
A novel idea you have happening here mate. Kudos to you lOL
Hi Mike,
How do you cancel an account?
Thanks.
Gina
Hi Gina,
Send us a message (hit the contact button) with the user name of the account you want cancelled and I will make it happen. The request must come from the same email address the account was registered with of course.
This weekend I will be deploying an automated system for cancelling an account.
Saying good-bye already?
...in response to this comment by GMS. Update: I've provided instructions on how to close your account. When logged in, hit the edit link at the top and scroll down to the 'close your account' section.
Hope that helps!
...in response to this comment by GMS. Gina...Say it isn't so.
Don't go..
F-
I have to go, Friendo; this place and all you guys and girls have been way too kind, and I want to thank you for that, but it's just too darn addicting and I think it's destroying brain cells. More importantly, I discovered an indent in my right butt cheek from sitting in the same position w/ my legs crossed at my computer for so long. I have to do something about that.
You have my email. Drop me a lime anytime. ;-)
Bye Marvin! I hope you find that special someone.
Bye Kim! Your articles have been exciting academically.
Bye Laiste! You're a real doll and by the way, my daughter's borrowing "In Defense of Food" from a friend... I hope to thumb through it.
Bye Jake! Thanks for the laughs! And I'll never forget your kindness.
Bye Jim! Enjoy your movies!
Bye Mikey! Thanks for allowing me to put my two cents in! You won't ever be forgotten.
It's been fun!
Gina
I will miss our support.
I'll email you.

Thursday 9th April 2009 | 12:53 PMHi everyone,
Has anyone heard from Friendo? Is he okay?
...in response to this comment by Gina Squitieri. Wow Gina - long time no hear! Friendo is on the road to recovery after having an accident that put him in hospital for a while. We miss the old timer too.\
Feel free to send him a 'get well' message via his profile page. He is still reading the site.
