Conspiracy: Phelps didn't win the 7th gold medal
Mikey 9 commentsHere's something interesting to come out of the Beijing Olympics. There is a conspiracy theory doing the rounds suggesting that Michael Phelps did not actually win that 7th gold medal, and there is a web site with screen shots and other 'evidence' to back it up, along with the usual conspiracy theorist jargon.
But judging by one particular screen shot, shown below, it looks as if Cavic beat Phelps to the block, as he already has his hand on it while Phelps is still coming out of a stroke. But of course that badly compressed image is not enough to convince me.
Have look for yourself and be the judge. It will be interesting to see if the mainstream media picks up on this and what they make of it.

Wednesday 20th August 2008 | 11:13 AMIt could be that he was finished his stroke and was lifting his head out of the pool. Then again, maybe there is something too this. You never know.
One thing is for certain, if you leave it to the IOC, you will never get the right answer.

Wednesday 20th August 2008 | 11:37 AMI actually thought of that when I watched it live, but then isn't it all computer controlled. The times flash up on the big screen almost immediately...
Its not like the old days when there were judges with stop watches, which would have been easier to bribe/manipulate.

Wednesday 20th August 2008 | 11:46 AMDidn't he pay for it in advance?
I watched this live, and while it was close, phelps did win. You have to actually touch the black rim of the pool in order for your touch to count, so, I don't think so Tim.

Thursday 21st August 2008 | 11:28 AMI saw the repeat on tv, and it did look as if Cavic got there first. Maybe Phelps is actually Mr. Fantastic and stretched his arms out ahead to win, even though his head was further behind Cavic.

Friday 22nd August 2008 | 09:46 AMOr maybe some quantum tunneling occurred and the atoms of his little finger suddenly appeared on the block for 0.01 seconds

Monday 25th August 2008 | 10:12 PMWith the super mega slo mo cam available at these games it shouldn't have be an issue. The replay make it look as though Phelps came up short, just like Channel 7's coverage. Crossing from the mens basketball final to see the Eagles go down screaming in an irrelevant game of footy was a huge disappointment. And there was more airtime given to 7's ridiculously long slo mo montages between ad breaks than actual live sport. And mega boos to car ads during the opening ceremony, completely inappropriate.
And wtf is handball? How is playing catch an olympic sport?

I'd like to see what comes of this.
