Amy Walker: The girl has talent
Mikey 12 commentsYou've probably already seen this video somewhere in the passed week or so as it has become quite popular. I thought I would give it a mention here for two reasons. Firstly, Amy Walker does seem to have a talent for delivering dialogue in different accents. And secondly, she absolutely nailed the Aussie accent.
The only people I have heard do an Aussie accent properly are us Aussie's. Anyway, digging a little deeper and I found Amy's web site. She is an aspiring actor and has posted some of her video performances (monologues) online. Very theatrical, particularly 'Poor Unfortunate Souls'.
If you haven't seen the video have a look below. And if she eventually becomes famous remember you saw her here first :-)

Truthfully, all kidding aside, her video is quite captivating. (Gina splits to practice newfound hobby..........................)

Saturday 8th March 2008 | 08:37 PMAmy comes from Seattle and now lives in Philadelphia. And there is not a complete overlap between her site and YouTube's, so check both. On YouTube there's an interview with her.
I've never seen such range in so many dimensions - except maybe Meryl Streep ... and I don't know if Meryl ever did one woman shows where she wrote her own stuff. (Check out Amy's parody of "With you, Beside you" from Phantom of the Opera - it's very smart, very funny.)
I think she might be a tsunami. Having a number of viral videos tends to boost your name-recognition factor. "21 Accents" alone has almost hit 100,00 on YouTube. Here she comes.

"That was what guided her from her native Whidbey Island near Seattle to the University of Wollongong in Australia to study acting and singing."

Friday 1st May 2009 | 04:17 AMHer Southern US accents are a bit generic, for what it's worth. Texas is decent, but the Charleston accent would sound put on to anyone from the South. I suppose Seattle was her mainstream US accent? That one was solid; normal US diction.
Of course, one of the beautiful things about accents is that as long as the person faking it isn't doing one's own, it sounds more or less right, doesn't it? Finally, the Hepburn accent at the end was at least as good as Cate Blanchett's in The Aviator.

Tuesday 14th December 2010 | 12:22 PMYuck - something about the woman irks. She is a caricature of the annoying drama girl.
