OK. So I'm pretty sure this is gonna cause a lot of controversy, and I'm a little worried the comments may get out of hand. But this is something that has been bothering me for some time now, and I think it needs to be talked about.
Would the racists of America assassinate Obama?
For as long as I can remember, there has been a running joke within the African-American community about the first black President getting shot. It is used on a constant basis, from street corners to comedy clubs to movies.
In Chris Rock's 2003 movie Head of State, the Democratic Party tries to get an unknown black man elected president. When they tell Chris Rock of their plan to elect him, the first thing that goes through his mind is a one second clip of him being assassinated. Now just because it's in a Chris Rock movie doesn't mean it'll happen, but I've always felt that Chris Rock has his finger on the pulse of America, and now that, for the first time in history, there is a possibility of a Black President, I'm wondering how far off that joke really is.
Let me explain
We live in a world of contradictions. American's love to say that race and ethnicity are no longer an issue, that we put those problems behind us with the Civil Right movement, and have since buried the ghosts of our forefathers. We love to tout our equal opportunity legislations, our politically correct diction, and the proverbial Melting Pot where all races and ethnicities meld equally into a single homogenous unit that is America. But that is not the truth. We are lying to ourselves.
Those ghosts of racism are still lingering below waiting to spew forth and rear their ugly head for all the world to see. No matter how much we try to bury them with legislation and rhetoric, they always find a way to break through our delusional veneer and deliver a shock that brings us back down to a gritty, ugly, and sometimes bloody reality.
Recent Ghosts
Last September, in the small Louisiana town of Jena, the treatment of six young African-American boys, dubbed the Jenna Six, caused the largest resurgence of racial issues in at least a decade. In what has been called "the largest civil right demonstration in years," the entire African-American community seemed to come together for the first time in a long time. So did the racists.
KKK websites posted the names and addresses of the Jena Six and urged followers to "drag them out of the house". Forums and chat rooms were filled with hate-speech and supremacist rhetoric, but not just from the usual suspects.
"There is a major white supremacist backlash building," said Mark Potok, a hate-group expert at the Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights group in Montgomery, Ala. "I also think it's more widespread than may be obvious to most people. It's not only neo-nazis and Klansmen—you expect this kind of reaction from them." - Witt, Howard. In an almost nationwide attempt to prove that the racism of Jenna is anything but a local issue, nooses began to appear in vast numbers. In Philadelphia, in New York, in Maryland, in North Carolina, in Universities, in High Schools, at job sites, at police stations, and in office buildings the old and disturbingly familiar symbol of hate and intolerance, The Noose, reemerged.
My Worst Memory
On June 7, 1994, in Jasper, Texas (not far from my family's home town) a man by the name of James Byrd was beaten, tied up, and dragged behind a truck for three miles, by men who where avid and vocal white supremacists. His body was dumped at the black cemetery. His head decapitated. His arm severed. The police found 75 places littered with Byrd's remains.
And for reasons that were not apparent to me at the time, the KKK held a rally. They came out with their white robes and their hooded faces to stand opposed to the "black militant groups" that had descended upon the picturesque town. The KKK came out "to support the white people of Jasper" as if they were in dire need of help.
On bit of a personal note, until this happened my only experiences with the KKK were as underground whispers and stories. I had been asked to join a time or two, but it was always in a very hush-hush manner like I was joining some Freemason underground network. Needles to say, I declined.
The events of Jasper were the first time I had seen these evil ghosts appear in such an open and public way. I also began to realize that although the public sector of the KKK was small and marginalized, the underground network was a vast, far-reaching group like an iceberg waiting to crash our ship.
For me, this was the first time I understood that these people were not only a part of our past, but of our present and our future. I began to understand that these people are part of America, whether we want them to be or not, and whether we acknowledge them or not. And they are not going away.
What will they do?
Will they hold a rally? Will they post threats? Will they follow through?
So my question becomes, if Obama is elected, what will they do? What will these people so full of hate and violence, so full of intolerance and ignorance do? What will a group who is capable of hundreds of years of lynchings, rapings, and murders do?
Will they hold a rally? Will they post threats? Will they follow through? I don't know. But I do know what I'm praying for, what every last thread of my being hopes for. I hope that one day we can shrug off the ghosts of our past and finally once and for all bury those ghosts that have been haunting this country since its founding. I hope that day has come, but I'm not holding my breath.
Talking head Bill O'Reilly and rapper 50 Cent recently got into a tiff over this very theme (see http://www.str8hiphop.com/node/6382 for video).
It's a rather sad question to have to ponder but is certainly a possibility, especially given recent assassinations of leaders in other countries (Bhutto, Mughniyeh, etc.)

The Jena 6 incident did not happen as the media tells it.
Yes, the bit about the nooses being hung, et cetera, is true. However, the white student that the 6 decided to beat up didn't actually have anything to do with it!
It wasn't that they beat up the kids who hung the nooses, which would be fine by me. Instead, they just decided to beat up some white guy, which is not only wrong, but racist on their part.

Don't think so. Besides this topic isn't as controversial as you might believe, anyone at anytime has the possibility of being killed, the position you stand in would on extrapolate that danger, however, would you rather die naturally or be killed? In the event of you being murdered the victim will (depending on religion) die and go some where believed better whereas the murderer will probably be sent to jail and anal raped for the rest of their life.
This would be a bad thing except that anyone who is crazy or whatnot to kill another person would probably enjoy that anal part. ]=

But I know what would happen - George Bush, who everyone makes fun of and quite a few despise with all their heart and souls, and has not been a very good president, as far as presidents go, will leave office fully alive, and someone like Obama, or anyone of any other race or gender or what have you, will turn out to be an absolutely awesome president and would do so much for our country or the world, and yet some stupid prick wont be able to see past the dark skin or female boobies and be like "Nope, they must go down" and because he or she is not a white male, they would feel no remorse for going through with it. That's what those people are like. How can people be so naive?

I am glad to have stumbled across this, because I have been worrying about the same thing. People in America seem to have forgotten that assassinations can still happen. They seem to have forgotten RFK and MLK, of whom Obama seems to be a mix: he is both a black icon of great rhetoric and an inspirational Democratic candidate for president.
I think this is a real threat. Luckily, since RFK's assassination, the mandate of the Secret Service was expanded to include presidential candidates. Let's hope they do their job well.

While I could envision some unaffiliated whack job doing about anything in their misguided attempt to make the world conform to their view, I don't think that singling out the KKK is fair. The KKK actually publicly endorsed Obama's candidacy recently, stating that they found it more in line with their motivations than Hillary's.
I believe that they think that an educated and eloquent black holding the nation's highest office would signal an end to the "reverse racism" that keeps us from engaging in meaningful dialog to solve some of the race centric issues that have been taboo for so long. Who better to tear down the wall of political correctness than the President, who just happens to be black.
Obama offers much to our country, not only by virtue of his abilities, but by all that he represents. America should take the next step toward "true" civilization and celebrate this milestone, regardless of the outcome of the election.
I hate stupid people. Yet, at the same time, I feel a bit sorry for them. For instance, KKK types all tout the same party line about how the black race is killing America, along with countless other conspiracy theories. At the same time, there are hundreds of thousands of mental patients that sit in institutions feeling the same way about everyone. They feel like they are important for one reason or another, and that they are on important missions, etc. Sort of like the other mental patients calling themselves the KKK.
I know that most of this kind of hate isn't bred into humans. Babies aren't born with a hood and Nazi tatoos emblazoned on their heads. They are taught. They are taught to be just like everyone else; they are taught to be normal. Yes, it's a skewed view of normal, but normal for them isn't the same as normal for you or I.
Ya, Ya, Ya, I know. These people are responsible for thier actions now, and aren't exactly children anymore (although they may act like it) It's just sad to think that if they were adopted at birth into a black family, they would probably be on the other end of the stick for being a sympathizer.
So, the question is posed, "How do you fix a learned hate?"
While the answer isn't readily available, there are two things that I believe may do the trick.
The first is time. I think that time will be the only true teacher. Sadly, it may take several more generations to breed it out, but sooner or later, these mental health patients will eventually get taught by someone that wasn't just like everyone else. Someday, they will learn that people don't think like that anymore, and if they do, they aren't looked at as normal. That is the best chance for change anyway. Positive peer pressure. If the young boy in grade school finds he has no friends because he uses the word 'nigger', then maybe he won't say it anymore.

I find it offensive that the USA has troups all over the world liberating the oil, supposedly quashing the terrorists of yesterday and tomorrow and enforcing the USA version of democracy, yet these terrorists are allowed to operate freely.
These people are terrorists, they are disgusting and vile pieces of white trash! I mean, we have people here in Australia who hold hatered towards immigrants and Indigenous Aussies, but it is neither common, nor organised. The KKK is organised, they're in every state, they have guns, they're stupid, and asuming that the information available on the internet is true, they use their bible to justify their cause.
I watched a documentary on the discovery chanel the other day about this southern american gang that is sweeping through the USA, and the KKK is fighting other americans... I mean their not ven productive, they're just white bred, i.q. of 12, Bush loving, Jesus humping wankers... with guns.

Man files Federal Lawsuit against Obama regarding GAY sex and drug use claims
A man named Larry Sinclair posted a video to YouTube claiming to have used cocaine and engaged in a gay sex act with Obama when Obama was a state legislator in 1999.
In the video, Sinclair claims he and Obama met on two separate occasions, that Obama used crack cocaine and that Sinclair performed oral sex on Obama both evenings.
Now Obama and company are quickly trying to quiet this man, but Sinclair has filed a federal lawsuit. Sinclair filed suit against Obama and his campaign guru David Axelrod in Minnesota district court for allegedly attempting to abridge Sinclair's right to free speech, and for waging an intimidation campaign against him.

The goods ones get shot or killed because they go against the grain. I think Obama is well aware of this threat though. I don't think it would be an easy task to assassinate him although that won't stop the KKK from trying. All he can do is be careful and have constant security.

Yes, your fears are valid. But the question is, "So...?" Are those fears powerful enough to not even try? That's the power of terrorism: cause people to fear so that they won't even move. GW definitely had a point back after 9/11 that the worst thing we could do was to live in the fear of terrorism. Unfortunately, he didn't take his own advice, but it was great advice. Yes, I worry, too. But consider that GW hasn't died yet, and plenty of people hate him. Okay, so maybe those people don't have the guns like the Obama haters do. Or maybe people fear Cheney being president. But I do personally believe that this speaks to the brilliance of the Secret Service.

They won't try to shoot him 'cause he's black. They'll shoot him because he's distracting America from the selfish indulgence that maintains the status quo. The people who want you to go back to watching desperate housewives and buying big gulps... they're the ones who'll kill him.
Orators of his quality come along once or twice in a generation. In the 60s we had 3, and they were all killed. I just hope security's better today, and that racists have been too marginalized to be a threat. I heard once that one in three Klansmen is an undercover fed.

I hope that everyone realizes that he is just another man no matter the color of his skin and we need to focus on his politics and his LACK of any details or plans for his claims... One of the oldest tricks in the book is smoke and mirrors (mis-direction) I just hope that we the people do not let ourselves get conned into something we don't want.. (Not to say that Obama is doing this... but I'm slightly skeptical still)

I have mentioned this very same concern in my blog post on Ted Kennedy's endorsement of Obama, and it is a very real threat. Just look to the past to see hints at the future; what has happened to men like him? Bobby Kennedy was gunned down in a hotel kitchen, Martin Luther King Jr was assassinated while trying to bring civil rights to the black community. Now we have a almost hybrid of those two great men running for the highest office in the land.
There is a very real threat for this man, I hope he wins the election, and I hope he escapes assassination; white supremacists with a gun and an agenda will most certainly take a pot shot at the guy; he represents everything they despise.

All you need is a rifle and an Obama tour schedule. For the KKK, you'd need to have every single person involved keep their mouths shut. You will feel the need to talk to someone about it, to brag about it, to boost your own ego by saying so. Hookers, friends, fellow organization members, and sooner or later the Feds will find out. A good sniper with a license for an M-90 Beretta (sorry if I got the name wrong), and he can take him out from what, 500-700 yards away?

Barack Obama is not a Muslim, nor was his school a Wahabbist school, and is a member of the United Church of Christ (just to clarify some things). Please do some fact checking next time.
That said, I think that assassination is always a possible threat for any prominent figure in our society today. Racism may or may not be a factor; a lone nut with a gun would be a far more likely assassin than a widespread public entity like the Klan. Hopefully, the Secret Service will do its job and protect not just Senator Obama, but also Senators Clinton and McCain while they run.

He had dreams that he could really make the difference.... Obama is young, intelligent and has great hope for this country. This is cute. No, really, you actually think you're making a valid point. You cannot simply compare racist hate crimes to the assassination of a US President. I agree, all those hate crimes you used as 'evidence' are terrible tragedies, no matter what races are involved. But you have no warrant in using those stories as support for your argument.
By your logic, anybody could argue that "well, because many past Presidents have been killed in office, and many hate crimes have also occurred in our country, Obama would certainly be killed if he was elected." You are ignorant.
Not to mention, you don't keep up on current events. Since all of your anecdotes use the KKK as perpetrators, the you are assuming the KKK would be the first to attempt assassinating Obama. Read this and weep, friend.

But it's still true that you're completely generalizing hate crimes. By assuming that an assassination would occur simply because racist hate crimes have happened frequently means nothing, and you are still wrong on all accounts.
I feel there's a great chance Obama will get assassinated, if these hate groups will rise up over their interpreted need to represent the whites, how will they react when a black president is representing the entire country. Prepare for extreme unrest if Obama is elected, and keep a close eye on who he chooses for VP

The fact that you want to base a past experience, nay an accusal, of GAYness on the legitimacy of a president is ridiculous!? This could be the reason why our country is most likely doomed in its future. A great candidate with great ideals and great plans to try to help an F*ed country can be questioned for the soul reason that an uncredited story emerges about gay sex? Frankly, I think the media is all bullsh*t anyways and I'm quite surprised it wasn't flaunted all over prime-time news on Fox and CNN. I believe that even the accusation of cocaine usage is completely irrelevant(negating the fact that it is most likely entirely fabricated), seeing as our country has been led the last 8 years by a coke using draft dodger...stop being ignorant and naive.
Back to the main topic; it is entirely possible that something terrible like this could happen. As much as we gloat about equality, too many people in this country still don't believe everyone was created equal. All we can do is hope that some ignorant person doesn't go to far.
If that happens USA will be a shame for the rest of the civilized world. With your actual president, USA lost a huge amount of credibility in my country (Spain) and the rest of the EU.

I'm a barack supporter and it saddens me to say that i do believe there is a strong chance he could be assassinated if he is to become president.

It's unfortunate but true. I go to a small town college and there are a lot of people there that say they wish slavery never ended and other things to that effect. It sickens me.
Barack stands just as much chance of being the target of an assassination attempt as would Hilary. I would think that one the larger view of America that there is probably more militants out there that would take up arms in an attack against Hilary because she is a woman than against Barack because he is black.
I agree with Barack in that the majority of middle to lower class Caucasians in this country do not see white as being an advantage at all. We are all suffering despite race, color or creed. If you look at the statistics of those that have died in this recent war in Iraq, the bullets don't have a color preference but it would appear that they do based on income status.
It has nothing to do with race, gender, or religious preference that prevents an individual from walking the halls of Harvard, rather, it is the $300,000 bill that tempts us to go to extremes to find success.

Sadly, it is true that some dissenters will want to assassinate Obama. It is also true that all presidents, at any time, are under constant threat of being assassinated. However, I also think that Obama has a greater risk of being assassinated specifically because he is black. I'm not going to beat around the bush and use euphemistic terminology: it is the simple fact that Obama is black, and neither Hillary nor McCain are. People are saying that Obama "will have the same risk of being assassinated as any other president"- this is incorrect, in my humble opinion.
The reason for this is simply that Americans are racist, although we will deny it in the presence of others. Hopefully, it will change. But as an earlier post stated, only time can heal the racism and hatred that is being bred into our youth through organizations such as the KKK.

Isn't anyone else tired of distorted facts, Internet hoaxes, attention seeking liars and the "spin?" I just want a colorblind world - a place where people don't see color. It seems like a never ending cycle. In humanity's dark history, slavery was a part of too many cultures. In our country, thank the deity of your choice, laws were finally enacted to bring those who were enslaved into legal equality with the slave owners. But for decades, many ignorant white people hated blacks because they thought of them as sub-human. They reviled them and persecuted them, thinking they were less intelligent and unclean. Today, all right-thinking people know this is not true. There is no proven genetic link between race and intelligence (though there are statistics that show education is still unequal in our world.) Over the course of many decades, whites and blacks fought it out on many stages. Quietly, the quality and reasons behind racism have changed. Today, when I hear "racist" comments, they are those of blacks who hate whites, who think whites owe them something for actions taken decades before - or, from whites who hate blacks because they think blacks are racists getting away with wholesale hatred of whites with no repercussions.
I am not an Obama supporter. Not because he's black, or because of his middle name, or the way his first name rhymes, or even the anti-white sentiment of his church, or the reckless comments of his wife. I think he's a fantastic orator, but I believe his logic where world affairs and government's role in society are concerned is just poor logic. All the rhetoric in the world won't change that. I hope for no man's death at the hands another in a furtherance of hate.
Today's world needs less spin, more fact; less hate, more understanding; less freeloading, more work. No one, black, white, or otherwise is justified in their hate.

Jake kiddo, that ain't even fair. Organized racism IS NOT common in America. I live in the deep south (Louisiana) and I have never even met a clansmen. I HAVE been called a "cracka" by plenty of black people, but you don't see me picketing black society.
The fact is, America is no more racist than any other place. We might seem more racist than other nations, but that's only because different races represent a higher percentage of the population here. You don't hear about racism in Japan because Japan is about 99% Japanese! So it's really not fair to say America does nothing about terrorism in the states. The KKK is not given free reign at all. When they break the law, they are penalized, just like the islamic radicals.
Here's the problem: Racism is often classified as coming from "ignorance", but I think that's incorrect. People aren't racist here in America because they aren't educated about other races. It's the other way around. They are racist because they HAVE had real experiences with other races, and their experiences have been negative.
You don't convince white people to get along with black people by convincing them that black people like them. Because a lot of the time you're going to be wrong. You defeat racism by teaching good character and principles. I recognize that most violent crime in America is committed by black people. I recognize that back people have generally lower test scores than white people. But I have been taught the character and principles to recognize that burning crosses is only going to magnify those problems.
And trust me, calling America a big melting pot of racism is going to magnify the problem as well.

Obama's chances of winning are enhanced by the fact that nobody really different is running against him. Obama, Clinton and McCain are all liberals. Therefore a non-liberal reactionary might be more motivated to take out McCain in hopes that a sympathy surge and a chance for the Republican party conservative base to find someone they can wholeheartedly support might come to the fore. Therefore the secret service would be wise to increase their guard over McCain. Hillary appears to be folding so she may be safer but if anyone would care to make the case for her to be the most likely target, present your scenario.

I deserve to live above the median income level because I have worked hard for it and proven myself. I work and pay to provide my children with double-coverage of medical insurance. Why should my income subsidize those who are too unmotivated and lazy to support themselves? What has the welfare recipient done to "earn" their "entitlement" from the redistribution of the wealth? Why should I subsidize the health care of those who are unwilling to work because they know that others will provide for them?
I am a gun owner and carry one on a daily basis for personal defense. The founding fathers of our nation supported our God-given right to own and possess these weapons. Since our nation is founded on the principle of for the people, by the people, the Constitution allows the people to overthrow a tyrannous government and the Second Amendment provides the means to do so. The history of other nations is an excellent example of why firearm ownership by citizens is a necessity History has proven repeatedly what dictators do after gaining the support of their nation (by promising great change). To ensure their dominance, they quickly remove the means with which the citizens can remove the dictator. Barrack Obama fully supports the disarmament of not only our military, but also a full disarmament of our citizens.
I am a white male. As a white male, I am the subject of racism and sexism due to affirmative action policies. Call me insensitive, but I feel no obligation to provide a person with preferential treatment based on the possibility that a distant relative may have been a slave on some cotton farm. Their ancestor's slavery is tremendously beneficial to them as it is what brought them to this country. How many of today's working age black citizens were repressed decades ago and enslaved long prior to that? Somehow, though, I doubt I will receive any preferential treatment when the white male becomes the minority.
Nearly a decade ago, I took an oath to protect my country from enemies, both foreign and domestic. If Obama is assassinated, I believe that it will likely be by someone who has also taken that oath. This person will see Obama for the domestic enemy that he really is and will feel obligated to hold true to their oath. I will consider that assassin to be a true American patriot. Semper fidelis.
With the threat of Obama becoming president, I am scared for my children, my country, and myself. Being a rational person, I cannot support Obama, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the color of his skin. I'm going to try to steer this conversation back to the original post.
In my (admittedly limited) experience, 'racial purists' or hate groups or supremacy groups or the KKK or whatever don't seem to accomplish much on a large scale anymore. They are much more of a minority now than they have ever been, and don't have enough public support to accomplish large-scale public demonstrations, etc. I agree with several others who have said that any danger of assassination to any president is much more likely to be an individual than an organized group.
It is also my humble opinion that most people do not dissent with Obama because he is black or because they perceive him to be Muslim or because they associate his name with terrorism or any of those things. In my judgment, the majority of people that would not like him to be our next president disagree with him on political and idealistic grounds. They don't want the federal government to be so involved in issues that have historically been left to corporations, local church communities, and state governments, or the tax burden that must ultimately follow.
Some have mentioned that the major idealistic difference in the United States today is not a 'north vs. south' or 'white vs. black', but conservative vs. liberal. This seems valid to me. On one side, there are those that believe the government should provide national defense (in the form of a military) and perhaps not much else. On the other side, there are those that believe the government should not only provide for our defense, but also our health, education, welfare, and much more. People can fall anywhere in between, of course.
I would posit that any president has a much higher chance of being assassinated for ideological differences than for his race, creed, or other similar distinction. Under that assumption, perhaps either McCain or Obama have an equal risk of assassination, since both propose controversial ideas and policies. Some identify McCain's ideas as similar with the widely unpopular policies of President Bush, and thus he may be at risk from someone trying to 'prevent Bush's third term'. Likewise, some feel that Obama's plans put way to much in the hands of the federal government at taxpayer's expense or feel that an early extrication from Iraq would be detrimental to our security and may therefore think that killing him would somehow fix things. Realistically, in either case, an assassination would not likely accomplish much, since the rest of the elected administration would likely continue to support similar policies.
I estimate that the majority of people that disagree strongly with either candidate would not think that killing them would help their cause. Of course, it is not the majority that is the assassination risk, but I think a potential assassin is more likely to be an individual who disagrees with a policy or idea rather than some sort of organized group 'promoting' any race.
Personally, I believe that any Patriotic American should respect the President and the great duty and responsibility they have pledged to the American people, regardless of who they are. Do I agree with most of Obama's ideas or policys? No. Do I respect what he is trying to do for our country? Yes, because in his view, he is doing what he thinks is right and what he thinks America wants and needs. Would I consider killing him to promote a different policy or idea? Of course not; historically, that sort of action typically has the opposite effect. Besides, how can someone call themselves Patriotic, or, for that matter, even American if they kill the President? Americans should work with our President to improve our country, because arbitrarily opposing everything he does based only on a few policies or ideas is counterproductive. How can any President accomplish anything if everything he proposes is blocked or denied simply because of his party affiliation?
Ultimately, I think either candidate is in just as much danger as any president has been for about the past 50 years or so. Prior to that, it seems like Americans had a much better sense of admiration and respect for the office of the President, and to think of killing him was ridiculous. How we lost sight of that, I'm not sure, but the issue is that many have and I think there are plenty of people willing to kill the President. What I don't believe is that Obama is under any greater risk because he happens to be black. There are plenty reasons a person may want to kill him, or McCain for that matter, other than skin color. I think if he does become President, there may be some discussion about it [race] in the media for a few months, but after that, I think most debate will focus on policies and plans, as it should.

Voters this election are faced with an impossible catch-22: Anyone disagreeing with Obama's plans for America will instantly be labeled a redneck racial extremists by voting for McCain, but if they vote for Obama, any forward economic progress in our nation will be at least stalled, if not completely reversed. Obama's twisted version of socialism, if implemented, certainly signals the beginning of the end of the United States economically, as it has for countless other nations' attempts at this fundamentally flawed economic model.
A core principle in the founding of America was the just and equal treatment of people. A government that steals my money from its denizens under the guise of taxation and then gives it freely to anyone they deem deserving is ridiculously unjust, and certainly not equal treatment. Don't confuse this idea with apathy towards the poor or underprivileged; it is simply not the role of government to decide to whom a person donates their money. This responsibility lies with the individual, with the corporations, and with the religious communities, not a governing body.

In addition, since when is it in the federal government's power to abolish our right to bear arms... that's right: never. Yet Obama seems convinced that snatching the guns out of the hands of our citizens is not only in his purview, but is also somehow constitutional, apparently under the pretense of making us, as citizens, safer. It seems that he believes that by disarming innocent (and licensed) citizens, he is somehow increasing their level of protection. What is he on?
In the end, even if he does get elected, hopefully most of these wild claims will turn out to be political fodder for the sniveling hoards of illegal immigrants that he caters to. If he is, in fact, truly serious, then we can only hope that others in Washington can protect us, as Americans, from his ridiculous attempts at 'improving' the country.
A final thought: would a black American be considered racist if he did not vote for McCain?

The only reason I could see for the assasination of someone like Obama, who himself will probably get "elected" on the basis that he's black, not credentials. Would be the furthering of the "new world order" that Bush sr. , Clinton and several others mentioned a number of times. Remember, barring a "caticlismic event" (9/11) it would have been impossible to remove basic freedoms from the average person under the guise of "national security". Now say a president is assasinated? Hmmm. Would that then allow the government to crack down even harder on its own people? As well as those on a global scale? CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina man has been formally indicted on a charge that he threatened to shoot Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert said Friday that 48-year-old Jerry M. Blanchard has been charged with knowingly and willfully threatening to kill, kidnap and inflict bodily harm upon a major candidate for president.
Blanchard was arrested Aug. 1 after witnesses told federal authorities they overheard him threatening to assassinate Obama in July. One said Blanchard said he planned to purchase a pistol.
According to a federal affidavit, there was no proof Blanchard tried to carry out the threats.
Blanchard has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. A message seeking comment was left with his lawyer.

A severe lack of education and opportunity over multiple generations in isolated towns with a critical lack of gun controll is what this breeds.

Racism is a sad thing. There is so much of it here, in this very blog. Broken down, it is the result not of stupidity, naiviety or ignorance. It is a product of stubborness.
Hatred is bred when we fail to understand something. Instead of seeking understanding, we stubbornly cling to our perceptions, ideals and beleifs, and fear that which we do not understand, because it is human nature to fear the unknown - it is how our species has survicved as long as it has. We become angry at the thing we fear - "how dare it/they interupt my perfect world, and my flawless perceptions" we think to ourselves (because it is also human nature to believe that we are correct and the world around us is flawed and evil). Once we are good and mad, we then begin to hate the thing. We wish harm to it, out of a desperate want for it to go away and leave us alone. We want our security and our certantity back, our status quo. Once we have reached this point, it is hard to go backwards. Going backwards would mean facing out fears, challangeing the way we look at the world, possibly finding out that what we believed was a lie, and -the most imposing of all- changing the way we think.
The only way to combat this is careful, deliberate, and introspective thought. Inspect your reasons for your dislike of someone or something. Attempt to learn as much as you can about the things you hate, and ask yourself -after learning about them, do you still hate them? I think that deep down, we can all say (and I will speak for myself here as well) that we all have racist tendencies, because we all feel fear, and we can all be remarkably stubborn.
To address the question being asked: Will a white supremicist group attempt to assinate Obama should he be elected president? I highly doubt it. Most white supremicist groups remain in power by being subversive. They opperate in small cells, and use rhetoric to slowly corrupt the average person to thier racist ideals. They plant thier message of hate and sit back to watch it grow. The trueist example of thier handy work is the white boss who refuses his black employee a raise, or who says a noose hung at a black workers desk is "no big deal". Thier mission is to secure a future for white children by halting the advancement of the black race. They don't want to kill blacks, they just want them to go away and leave whitey alone. A massive, large scale attack such as this is not thier style - it would shed too much media light on what they do and possibly disrupt thier base of power.
As someone else said, a plot by a single wacko hellbent of god-only-knows-what and for god-only-know-what reason is more likely. However, I think Obama and his campaign are well aware of the possibilities and I am sure, despite his calm exterior and seeming inability to be shaken, that they have planned accordingly.

Not all killing is murder. For example, if someone were trying to harm my family, I have a right to kill them in order to defend what is mine. If someone pulled a gun on me at the ATM, I could kill them to defend myself (at least for now, that will change once Obama is elected). Actually, I have more respect for that thug robbing people on the street than I do Obama. That thug at least gives me a chance to defend myself if I so choose. It's a really bad man to use the legal system, and government to steal from me, which is what Obama will do. If it's to protect ones country, and the United States Constitution, killing is actually a good thing.

Its really hard for me to talk about this. I'm a 22yo college student and I've been raised all my life in a melting pot. Miami FL. My mother from Topeka, Kansas and my father from Caracas, Venezuela they always tought me to be fair and equal to everyone no matter where they are from or what color skin. In a city where you may encounter almost any race I have always stuck to those morals, taken advantage of or not.
