Navigation gets smarter: Virtual Cable
Mikey 5 commentsSomeone was thinking outside the box when they designed this in-car navigation system. Instead of the traditional GPS based small LCD screen and voice to give you driving directions, Virtual Cable make use of your windscreen.
The technology involves using a dash mounted laser and it can also connect to existing GPS navigation system. The videos shown on their web site are only simulations but they are apparently spot on to the real thing, which makes me wonder why they don't yet have actual video footage. According to the marketing spiel...
"The driver sees the Virtual Cableā¢ image through the windshield. It appears as if suspended over the road, similar to a trolley cable. The image is in true 3D and appears to be a natural part of the landscape. The driver uses only peripheral vision to follow the Virtual Cable"
All the same, it's a unique way to assist navigation in your car.

Also, would it distract from watching other things, like kids crossing the road?
