DNA pioneer says white people are smarter than black people

The scientist who won the 1962 Nobel Prize for his work on discovering the structure of DNA has had his upcoming talk cancelled by the Science Museum.
Dr James Watson's controversial views on intelligence state that white people are smarter than black people. A museum spokesperson said "It is a shame that a man with a record of scientific distinction should see his work overshadowed by his own irrational prejudices."
In a recent interview, Watson said:
"...all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours - whereas all the testing says not really."
He also said that he hoped everyone was equal but "people who have to deal with black employees find this is not true."
No stranger to controversy, Watson is on record as once stating that a woman should have the right to abortion if it can be proved the unborn child is going to be a homosexual.

He is not the first person to draw this conclusion, why must we dismiss it straight away?
I have read more on what he said and I think it could be possible, since there is supposed to be a "intelligence gene" and based on the fact that (as he says) black and white people evolved in different geographical locations over many thousands of years, why should we think that black people will be of equal intelligence when in evolution, white people were the more intelligent.
I think it is a shame that just because someone has stated something that could very well be proven to be true, we hound them and call them a racist!
Pathetic if you ask me.

I think you'll find very few people here that don't get some enjoyment out of your posts, they are often inflamatory and entertaining all at the same time. I'd love to sit down and have a coffee with you one day, and talk about cars or pollitics, I'm starting to think that debating religion is 98% of your identity... mind you one could give the same argument about me.
Alter Ego, you raise a very valid point, I often think that pollitical correctedness goes as far as to censor usefull argument. You raise another valid point about the bilinear evolution of black and white people, though mental capacity is hardly something that can be generalised to include an entire race and is hardly a DNA supported argument.
If such a gap were to imerge through research, I would speculate that the differences would be the cause of a lack of access to adequate and equal education.

I don't understand the whole idea that whites are smarter than anyone. European whites derived their knowledge after centuries of known civilizations existed in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. How does that make them smarter? Is it because we're in the West? The recent decline of the European empires? The fact technology expansion shot off after industrialism in the predominantly rich and white nations?
Of course DNA evolves differently in different regions, but the human brain has grown to sufficient size to be conditioned in many ways. Besides, there are accounts of selective breeding for many slaves where the strongest and not necessarily the smartest was preferred for trade.

The fact is that black kids don't have anywhere near the same access to education and extra curricular support as white kids do. Sure there are plenty of cases where wealthy black kids excell, and where black kids work their ass off and achieve against all odds, but in the main, you're far more likely to achieve if you're white, because of your access to quality education and support when you slip through the cracks.
If black kids are low achievers, it is because of the education gap, not because of some genetic intelligence gap.
Also, children with ADD and AD/HD are often kids with exceptionally high IQs. These are kids that often act up the most, are the naughtiest and worst behaved, but are certainly not the ones with the lowest IQ.

Yes they are, but you don't have to have half a brain to know that because you've had a bad experience with a certain culture or race, that doesn't mean all people from said culture or race are the same. If you can help explain the logic behind that, I'd love to read about it.

I think that some white people (red faced man) are born with a gene that makes them want to exalt themselves (like eagles). An innate characteristic that may never leave them. Most black people do not have this gene (unless an ancestor was raped by a white man (red faced man)), and hence this characteristic is not part of their psychological makeup. Black folks are usually more laid back. Most of them don't lust after power or supremacy.

I am studying genetics at the university of Stellenbosch near Cape Town and we have done our own DNA testing. It is not said aloud but from all the samples we have, is is very clear that there is a difference in the genes working towards intelligence in whites and in black.
Black people just do not think the same. When the first white people came to the cape in 1652, there was nothing. The blacks here were still hunting with spears, wearing animal skin and staying in houses made of cow dung and grass. while at the same time the Europeans where much further in the sense of technology, medicine and having currency.
To this day what has the black man achieved without the help of a white man?
Look at the state of Africa after all the white people have been chased away.
Nigeria sells millions of dollars of oil each day, yet there are high numbers of crime starvation and diseases like aids.
In my own country the new black government has started with land transformation. Taking land from white farmers and give it to black. From the day it started in 1998, 87% has failed. Once productive land, supplying food and jobs are now only fields overgrown by weeds.

I was raised by a black woman and though she only had a third grade education, she was the wisest, kindest woman I've yet to come across in my 45 years. And I'm not exaggerating. Was she perfect? No. Did she need assistance reading the newspaper and magazines? Yes. Did she live like a pig? No. We, the white children in the house, were the pigs. She cleaned up after us. But on the other hand, I was raised near southeast D.C., and when they started busing the black kids into the white schools and vice versa, you would have thought all hell had broken loose. How come Priscilla, the woman who raised me and my other siblings, didn't act like a hellion? How could she have gone through the civil rights movement era and before then (she was born in 1907 or 1910 -- they apparently didn't think enough of black people in that day to bother to keep their birth records--so I've been told). I suppose maybe some people do act differently and it doesn't matter how much oil they have in their backyards, but it has nothing to do with race -- for proof of that all you have to do is look at the middle east. Heck, look at Wall Street.

My mom are not entitled to a promotion because she is white. My dad has been hijacked twice. Our house was robbed 3 times. Two armed robberies in my street the last year. every 54 seconds a rape.
average 60 murders a day. From 1994 more than 3200 white farmers brutally murdered . burned by hot water and irons.
my old high school, was one of the best public schools in the western cape, in the last year more than 35 knife attacks and 3 armed with a fire arm.

The fact still remains there are intelligent black people who have made major contributions to the betterment of society.
And there are many evil and mean spirited white men who no conscience and have murdered more people than I think eve you would be embarrassed to admit. And, for proof of that all we have to do is look at Hitler, the Crusaders, the manufacturers of cigarettes, the pharmaceutical companies. Look at the Mafia. Look at Mao. Did I leave anyone out?

Until his work is published its just opinion and should be taken for a grain of salt. Theres no such thing as being less evolved because there is no goal of evolution. He didn't say skin colour determines intellect but that dna does (correlation does not imply causation). Black people, or African-Americans, or whatever they prefer to be called, have abundant advantages (educational & otherwise) in today's society, in the U.S. probably more than anywhere else. All sorts of grants, scholarships, & accommodations of every imaginable kind
are available. There's the NAACP, the United Negro College Fund still exists, &, of course, there's BET, to name just a few examples. There's an idea being spread called "Melanin Theory", the basic premise of which is that black people are more evolved than white people. One of the reasons given for this is spirituality, the implication of which is often religious belief (& I have no reason to believe that this isn't the case here). I'm white & I'm an atheist, &, with a couple of exceptions, all the other atheists I've ever known have been white as well, & it would seem to me that a more evolved person would be one who questions the continuing relevance of religion in such a modern, scientific age, not one who embraces it perhaps more tightly than ever (many black people seem to be among the most religiously obsessed). We continually are told (especially by black people) to celebrate Africa, but, from what I've read, it doesn't seem that slavery has been outlawed there. Can anyone confirm or deny this? If it's still happening there, is anyone inclined to try to do anything about it?
I sing, play three musical instruments & have composed numerous original songs, all without ever having taken singing lessons (they seemed entirely superfluous) & having used no more instruction than:
1. A couple of piano lessons (there was only so much I could take of practicing "Shoo-Fly").
2. The thing that really saved me, a cheapo mail-order book on playing the piano by ear that probably didn't cost much more than a couple of bucks (I don't remember exactly).
3. Studying one page of a guitar book, showing which strings/frets corresponded to which keys & the rest was just practice (& my brother taking 30 seconds to show me how to do bar chords), &
4. Learning the tuning of ukulele strings to figure out how to play that.
If I had more money, more space, & more privacy, who knows how many instruments I'd be able to play by now?
I worked snippets of my songs into a 15-min.doc. film (about me, about how I was almost killed a few years ago & am convinced my family was responsible, though I can't prove it, & about the undervaluing of individuality) that I created in filmmaking classes that I took at a school for which I got loans that I may never be able to pay back, that has now closed permanently (& I think I'm still the only student who hasn't had the chance to graduate), & at which I'd estimate that 90% of the students were blacks/African-Americans, which I never expected to be a problem, but many of them saw fit to use me as a scapegoat for slavery, segregation & other such grievances, including a couple of teachers, & I've no doubt that they're all doing perfectly fine now.
For my documentary, I served as my entire crew & on-screen presence, edited, copied & packaged the whole thing myself, using the school's facilities before it closed, independently sold numerous copies of it, & even had it shown in NYC at an independent theater that, like my school, is also now closed. If I were anything other than a white male, perhaps the theater would be treated as a landmark. As it is, it's been turned into a laundromat.
I find that there's a dearth of blacks/African-Americans who truly value intelligence for its own sake. I hate snobbery, which I've frequently encountered with certain breeds of white people, but I also think it's pathetic that the so-called "limitations" of blacks/African-Americans are always being blamed on "whites". I think there's an intense reluctance on the part of some blacks/A.-A.s to be or to try or to seem intelligent/intellectual at all, 'cause this supposedly means they've "sold out" & become too "white". However much or however little genes or evolution have to do with it, I think the majority of blacks/A.-A.s have been conditioned (in whatever manner, in whatever capacity, for whatever reasons) to concentrate almost exclusively on their skin color/race/ethnicity or whatever, at the expense of everything else, including intelligence. Having tried college (I really would've preferred on-the-job training & might've gotten it if I were black), I can't say I really think much more of it than high school (which I really did not enjoy much), except for topically relevant computer facilities & maybe a few truly intellectual instructors, & that, in my case, it must be on a par with the school experiences of the members of the punk rock group, Minor Threat.
Even keeping in mind that there are different types of intelligence (for example, book smarts vs. street smarts), maybe, ultimately, the smartest people are the ones who value intelligence the most highly.

White people throughout the course of history have had a better track record for being great thinkers. The oldest piece of art work ever found was discovered in Germany; not to mention all the great prehistoric cave paintings that have been discovered all over Europe. Great artistic minds throughout history, all predominately white (Leonardo, Picasso, Van Gogh, Michelangelo, Donatello, Andy Warhol, Ansel Adams, etc...not saying some black people aren't great artist too). Great musicians/composers leading up to the 20th century era of music were predominantly white. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven: say no more. Pretty much every great invention that makes the world what it is today was invented by white people; like ELECTRICITY, the light bulb, internal combustion engine, the automobile...
Look at all the countries where black people originate from (not to be confused with middle-eastern people), they're typically under developed and poor; ironically, they're completely saturated with valuable natural resources. However, countries where white people are native have always flourished (I know that having suitable soil for farming helped the advancement of ancient white civilizations, but Africa is full of DIAMONDS and OIL and they're still a poor country).
I feel that the argument used above, that white people living to the north had to rely on intellect to survive is a good explanation for everything I have just said. The less intelligent were eliminated from the gene pool. It only makes sense that Africans were forced to adapt to their environment as well, making them become fast, agile, and athletic in order to hunt animals (which translates to their over-whelming domination of pro sports).
Go ahead call me a racist, and I know that people will, but you know that everything I just said makes sense.

There are benfits to each race
Blacks/Africans(dark skinned individuals) have physical attributes which surpass other groups.
they have more fine mortor muscles which makes accelerate at sports (as seen today) such as athletics, basketball.., boxing etc (fast paced sports)
whites(light skinned individuals/ethnic races) have the contrary have more large motor muscles therby they able to grow bigger muscles which is why lighter skinned poeple (as seen today) accerlerate and predominatley own varios strength sports... sucj as body building
celts, spartans etc... were/are considered to be the fierciest warriors throught history..

There is no proven evidence that Egyptians were of the Negro ancestry, just as there is no proof that they were of a more fair skinned origin. According to some of the more recent facts Egyptians as a race assimilated and eventually ceased to exist, therefore their skin color, appearance, and other traits are highly debatable.
Furthermore, I am not American, and as an outsider I think that the constant concentration on racism and the fear to appear racist is the major problem in this country. The best way to deal with racism is to create completely equal environment. Eliminate race, skin color quote on all legal documents, eliminate affirmative action (because this seems more like a racism against whites), and eliminate different class levels in high schools. I always have a feeling that white people in USA feel like they need to atone for the past (slavery and such). Well this is ridiculous, history is history. Slavery was unfortunate, but required at the time. And let be honest black people were not the only slaves in the world. What about serfs in Russia, or Chinese slaves in Japan? History is history, learn from it and move on. People of African origin got their freedom here in US, so what are all the talks about.
As far as Dr. Watson's data, he was not the first person to present it. And I think that the main point is that from evolutionary perspective people of Negro descent are behind those of Caucasian origins. But then again, there is also thousands of data available that states that Caucasians are behind people of middle Asia.
