Norcal still ablaze and needs help
The Movie Whore 7 comments
I live in Chico California and the areas surrounding Chico are still being ravaged by this years wildfires. Fire fighters from several states have been brought in to help fight these fires and many Norcal residents have been evacuated and there a lot of people that have lost their homes in this years fires with more losing homes every day.
Ingrid Taylar has a blog and has a post here on how to help. Please take a look and if there is anything you can do help these people I would be eteranlly grateful.
Our valley is filled with smoke and ash from these fires. When I walk out side it is like seeing a fog blanketing our area and breathing is not always easy once you walk outside. There are warnings in our area not to go outside unless you need to and even then they recommend wearing a mask of some sort.
Update 7/10/08. I hit up my address book and sent out an email to everyone I have ever contacted in the film industry and other blog owners and I want to say thank you to Uwe Boll who forwarded my email to his 676 contacts and Greg Molyneux and Mirjam Terlingen who have both put up posts to help out. Thank you I appreciate it.

This is still an ongoing horror. I just received an email after several days of silence from my friend who lives/lived? in Paradise, CA. Looks like our AUS/NZ friends are helping out! OUR GRATITUDE TO AUS/NZ!
... "they just let us back into our homes for the day only. We evacuated Tuesday. The fire is about 1/4 mile from my home. They are sending 2,000 more national guardsmen to help out and Fire fighters from Australia and New Zealand. 11,000 have been evacuated out of Paradise (pop. 26,000)" ...
Thankfully, she has a son living in Chico where she can stay - while she is waiting to see if she loses EVERYTHING she owns. This is only one family. These people need all the help we can give...
That is awesome that Australia and New Zealand are sending help as well. Every little bit is appreciated.

Monday 14th July 2008 | 10:19 PMI can honestly say this is the worst fire year we've had so far that I can remember. This weekend I helped out a local Sacramento group collecting for the crews. While I was dropping off toothpaste, socks and flipflops I noticed the women loading the truck were having a hard time so I parked my scooter and jumped in helping to stack the stash for maximum load. I never did any volunteer firefighting while a student at Chico but I had plenty of experience while in Vietnam and later as an industrial safety engineer for Johns Manville. Fire fighting is a nasty enough task without being lost in the woods. I hope this ends soon

what i dont get is why arent there any precautionary measures being taken place? scrub-clearing, back burning etc... it seems to happen every other year and ppl are shocked that this actually takes place.
all being said, good luck, lay low... and make sure you and your family (including the fur family) have a good escape plan
Actually they do all of that every year. This year the first fires hit early and there was not time to do the usual precautionary. That is why the fires are so bad this year.

Friday 11th July 2008 | 02:19 PMIt's pretty scary stuff to have fires so close to your home. On Christmas we had massive fires that came within 50 metres. It was just lucky we have a massive wall just before the houses. The heat was so intense they had to climb over our backyard fences to get away.

I took that photo - that's my neighbour holding the hose. It was scary stuff.
Hope it all gets sorted soon mate.
